Erop (*Up Here), Théâtre du Centaure, Mierscher Kulturhaus, Kulturhaus Niederanven, 2022
"A wonderful and powerful evening”
Luxemburger Wort
"Romain Butti's monologue Erop, directed by Fábio Godinho, describes the emotional state of a man (Raoul Schlechter) who, during confinement, worries about his broken plans and fading dreams and discovers in nature access to a new dimension of his self. The protagonist describes situations of hopeless loneliness, the insatiable desire for the physical closeness of his great love and recalls, with the help of flashbacks, emotionally comparable states from his childhood."
"Mat dir ass ze vill, ouni dech hunn ech näischt".
Tageblatt
The first draft of this text was created in September 2020 as part of the "Commande de textes" initiative initiated by Les Théâtres de la Ville de Luxembourg and the Kinneksbond of Mamer. The Théâtre du Centaure asked the author, Romain Butti, to extend this first 20-minute version into a monologue for the stage, with the same magnificent artistic team – Raoul Schlechter and Fábio Godinho.
“Erop is the inner journey of a simple man who expresses his dreams and frustrations, as well as his past joys, by surrendering himself to the audience, with no boundaries between stage and audience. This text is a material. It gives me the freedom to move away from the traditional form of theatrical monologue, and to situate it between narrative and testimony. I wanted above all to represent the universality of the feeling of love in its complexity and its different temporalities. I want to explore the loneliness that we all feel at some point in our lives and in very different ways”. Fábio Godinho
